Max's photographic career was a natural progression from his understanding of the ocean and his love of adventure sports.
In the late 80's and early 90's he was a professional lifeguard on the beaches of West Cornwall working and surfing throughout the summer months.
Inevitably as each September drew to an end the desire to stay warm became ever important, the sun and the thought of warm waters with perfect waves took him to various locations around the world.
He started to photograph windsurfing from the ocean with a Nikonos water camera. A local sail maker sent him to the Canary Islands, a chance meeting with a top class international wave sailor took him to the Hawaiian Islands and a career was born.
As his pictures were published around the world, other opportunities developed. A meeting here, a coffee there, a degree of luck and here he is today - Formula 1, Motor sport and Feature cars complementing his established Adventure Sports and Travel images.

Formula 1
The noise! will be the thing that you remember most from your first face to face encounter with Grand Prix racing.
Your T.V. can show you the thrills and spills. The corners and the straights. The glamour. The money. The lifestyle. The crowds. Oh, but the noise!!!!!! the T.V. cannot reproduce the noise. It will get deep within you. F1 racing is great but the sound of the cars is fantastic!
Going to your first Grand Prix will be a unique sporting experience. The queues at 5am in the morning, the expense of your seat, the merchandisers barely coping with the non stop demand for all things F1 and that noise!!!!!!
It is hard to get close to the action fence after fence, marshal after marshal all in the name of safety and rightly so, but it would be nice to get that bit closer, wouldn't it?
Formula One is hard to photograph, it is exciting to photograph but more than anything it is extremely competitive to photograph.
At f1-pix.com I will try to get you a little closer to the drivers. The look in their eyes, the tension in their faces, the joy, the disappointment and all the trials and tribulations of the men who push themselves and their multi-million dollar race cars to the limit.
Motor Sport
Nearly every Saturday and Sunday, in every week, in every year throughout the modern world engines will be fired up and raced to victory or destruction in the name of motor sport.
It is glamorous to a point. It can be dangerous. It is certainly expensive. But more than anything it should remain fun!
There are many categories, big cars, small cars, sprints, endurance, track, forest. If you sit and ponder for a moment you'll come to the conclusion that 'if it's got an engine, someone will be racing it.'
We all know F1 is tops in terms of glamour and coverage. But is it the most exciting form of motor racing? No! just take a peek at the Touring cars nose to tail, pushing and barging. The one manufacturer series, Clios, Fiestas Elises to name but a few. The GT's thundering along lap after lap. The Endurance boys hour after hour!
This is grass roots motor racing with blood, sweat and invariably tears, this is excitement, this is passing to the limit and most of all this is where the FUN is.
Feature Cars
There are those among you that for whatever reason will never compete car to car on a race track, but you still love cars.
You guys are probably the creative ones. Pound after pound, Dollar after dollar, Franc after franc. Look around, it doesn't matter where you go someone will be styling their own little piece of unique magic with a car.
Cars are built for many reasons. Shows, competitions, Fun and probably more than anything else individuality. Some are just stunning to admire others have engines to die for. No one amongst us really knows why each car featured ends up the way it does. Only one person can give you the definitive answer. The owner, the creator. And in creating their car they hope to inspire others and so the circle continues to grow.
The cars featured in this section each have their own story, each car has featured in a magazine and each car has inspired another to be built, be it a follow up car for that owner or a first project for a reader who has enjoyed what they have seen and thought maybe...... I could do something like that.
Adventure Sports
For me this is where it started. Surfing was more than a sport it was part of my life. Surfing, led to windsurfing, which in turn took me to sailing and so the story grows.
Sport to most is a release of the week's frustration at work. Some play soccer others climb rock faces. Who knows why we do what we do, the fact is we all need to do something to unwind.
My photographic work has taken me to many places. I have witnessed people enjoying their lives on the water, in the air, on the rocks and under the ground.
People inspire people to move on and try new things. I hope the pictures here show the world's a great place, a great playground for us to enjoy and respect.
Adventure can be found by all of us, far or near, young or old 'there are no limits' enjoy.
World Travel
Without doubt luck has played a part in my chosen profession particularly in the early days.
Now, thousands of films later I can say it really has been worth it. My work has taken me around the world to places I never knew existed. I have enjoyed the sun and on many occasions the rain.
Throughout my travels I have tried to record images from the countries, showing their natural beauty and also the cities man has built. Many of which, are indeed in their own way quite unique and also beautiful.
Travelling does broaden the mind, which in turn adds depth to experience and gives a greater opportunity to learn about ourselves and the environment in which we live.
Every country has something special to offer. In many cases it is the people and their culture. Words can not express the friendliness I have experienced much of which has come when neither party could speak the same language.
So thank you to those I have met and warmest greetings to those I have yet to meet.
